Oppenheimer Review

The first thing I have to mention is that the film is very well made, it might sound strange, but here it feels like a real „cinema”. Shots, lighting, colors, everything is processed, thought out and presented as if they „rhymed” with each other (well, here is the famous phrase of George Lucas). The cast here is amazing, and it’s even surprising how many big stars have roles that only last a few seconds. Nolan has certainly gathered all his friends and luminaries from Hollywood. Is the movie a must-see on the big screen? Not necessarily, the long running time and character-filled drama can be watched quite comfortably in pajamas and a bottle of beer. It’s definitely not a „suitable for everyone” movie, so if you’re not interested in history, personalities, politics, or the Second/Cold War, you might get a little bored here. But if you’re into that, I think this is one of the best movies of the year.

I’ve heard the saying several times – don’t try to understand just FEEL Nolan’s films. And until now, I couldn’t „feel” it or understand it. Until Oppenheimer… the previous films seemed to be trying too hard, trying to cram everything in, and seeming to focus on the wrong things. But here everything is different, the film feels like the story of one person, sometimes more detailed, sometimes more sentimental, and sometimes just shown in passing. Things that seem to us from the outside to be mega important in such a story, were simply not that memorable for Oppenheimer. The very speed and jumping of the story, the overprinting of some places felt much more logical if you imagine how the father of the Atomic Bomb himself tells this story. Overall this story can feel a bit rushed at times, but I don’t blame her, again this is a man who influenced the most important events of the time. The film is dull, confusing, indecisive, and at the same time as stubborn as its main star.

Should I say something before this movie? Probably everyone could find something. Could be shorter, sure, but lately everything could be shorter. Does the film have too many characters and names, of course, but we are talking about projects in which hundreds of people actually participated and influenced, so you can’t throw out the words of the song as they say. Could it have been more about the bomb? More about the war etc.? Yes, but read the title of the movie again, it doesn’t say „Atomic Bomb”… Personally, 10 worthy works that live up to their expectations and deliver exactly what they promised – That’s right, it’s a slow and rich drama about one person’s life, worries, achievements, and made mistakes that cost a lot.
