Description: An impromptu farewell party for Professor John Oldman turns into a mysterious interrogation after the retired scientist reveals to his colleagues that he has a longer and stranger past than they can imagine. How much of this story is true, and how much is just a well-chosen lie?
I still remember we watched this movie during philosophy classes. And not without reason, the idea itself is really good, and twisted in such a way that even if it is not said exactly, that is why what they are telling us is true. At first it may appear that the film will be very strongly about religion, but here it is neither exalted as the only answer nor punished as some kind of human weakness. I still like it when beliefs or legends are explained much more logically and simply, and this story even has a few places where I could say "you're quite clever here, gentlemen". A very important thing, the ending does not make any decision, because that's why the story is not told here, but rather "what if the situation", so it is important to leave room for everyone's interpretation - And why couldn't it be true?
The fact that the main actor is chosen very well adds a lot to this film. He doesn't push what he has to say, but you can feel a certain confidence emanating from him that makes you believe him more and more. And when watching the movie for the first time, all the initial responses seem like what anyone would say in everyday conversation. However, when you watch everything again from the beginning, you notice small details and how each answer gradually "inserts" one or another idea into you. As a small project that just wants to roll out one theory, in my opinion, almost everything is very sticky here.
The biggest problem with this movie is that everything develops too slowly, you have a lot of time to think about what is happening and how, so everything doesn't feel as "strong" as you might want. I think a shorter film would help this story, and it would help if it didn't throw itself so much between the twists and turns of the story. Such little distractions can make the film quite boring for many, which is a bit of a shame, because as I mentioned, the script itself is really interesting. Also... which is quite logical for a low-budget film, some actors feel quite "fake" and overwrought. In general, it is a strange feeling when watching this film, as if you are watching a school play, where everything is as if elevated. It's a quirky, low-budget film with a really interesting idea…Overall - 7/10
